26 January 2010: Hopefully there are still other contributors

I (Tian) am really busy these days. But this is because of a great piece of news for me. It has been a few weeks since I became a daddy. So you can imagine it's hard for me to find time for development ;) But I am still keeping an eye on what's going on the forum. I just would like to apologize to all people that posted messages and were expecting for answers I didn't provide. I'll try to answer to some of you, but I won't have time for everyone.

As the title says, there are other contributors and users that can help you in the meantime. And most of the time in a better way than what I could do, even without a baby crying next to me ;)

02 January 2010: Happy new year 2010

It has been many years since GCstar has been created. And I hope it will continue being useful in 2010.

I, and the whole development team, wish to all of you a happy new year 2010.

29 December 2009: Barcode scanner with DVDFr plugin

Thanks to the great work done by ZeGuigui (responsible for the also great website DVDFr ), it's now possible to directly use a barcode scanner with the DVDFr plugin (french plugin for movies).

This will work if your tool generates the barcode as if the digits were entered through the keyboard, and then send the Enter key. If you use it while the title entry is active (this is the default after creating a new entry), this will get the information from DVDFr if this is your default plugin.

20 November 2009: Comparison between collection managers

A comparison between collection managers was published in Linux Format. Thanks go to NickElliott for sharing that piece of information with us.

20 November 2009: Version 1.5.0 released

After one beta, here is the final release of the 1.5.0 version. Main changes are described in the 1.5.0.beta1 release notes

There are also many bugs fixed since 1.5.0.beta1 (and obviously since 1.4.3).

You may read the GCstar changelog to have an overview of all the new features and the bug fixes included in this version.

21 September 2009: PPA for gcstar development

I've just set up a ppa that will follow gcstar development versions for ubuntu, with all the suggested dependencies included. You can use this if you want to follow the svn version of gcstar instead of waiting for the stable releases. Right now it's got the latest pre-release of 1.5.0 (with a few fixes since the beta 1 version), so if you've been having trouble with 1.4.3 or the 1.5.0beta, give it a shot and post your feedback. :D

I'll try and keep it so there's only functional relatively stable snapshots on there, but the usual warnings about beta software and everything definitely apply!

19 July 2009: Version 1.5.0.beta1 released

Please note this is a beta version. Then it may contain some bugs. It is released so users may test it and report some problems before the final version is delivered. If you wish to test it without impacting your current installation, just follow these instructions:

Test beta or SVN versions of GCstar

You may also directly download it from the download repository.

Do not hesitate to report any bug you could find. Just try to provide as much details as possible for developers. Thank you for your help.

Here are the main changes contained in this version.

16 July 2009: GCstar is not dead

Because of personal stuff, I am really busy these days (months). So there has been no new version. But hopefully, other contributors are also working on GCstar (mainly bubblegum for the moment). Then there are some new features ready for a future version.

No planned release yet. But stay tuned, this project is still alive and new versions will be delivered for sure.

07 May 2009: Bugs with Ubuntu 9.04

Some users reported a problem when using GCstar 1.4.3 with Ubuntu 9.04. The application crashes when trying to change manually the image associated to an item in a collection. Just hovering the mouse on that image could also lead to that problem.

There is a fix that can be used before the new version is available. More information in that post:

Sorry for the inconvenience.

13 October 2008: GCweb 1.0-beta1 is out

GCweb is a web interface created by jojotux to display the content of your collection generated thanks to GCstar in a web browser. This requires a web server with PHP5, but you will have then some features such as searching, sorting, filtering,...

For the moment, it is only available in french. But I am quite sure that translators (and any kind of contributors) are welcome. You will find more information in this topic:

GCweb is not managed by the same team as GCstar. So for any support request, please use its dedicated forum
